Introduction to why transgender issues are not transgender issues. This lecture, regularly offered by the Baltimore Transgender Alliance, explores the foundations of the Movement for Trans Lives and why trans bodies are a battle ground for the very movements that forget us. We will begin with conversations of the performance of gender and then explore deeper into why the movement leverages the use of language in the ways we do now. Why pronouns matter. Why visibility matters, yet we can not protect those who are visible. And most importantly, how allies can join us in the trenches and curtail the tangents of transphobia that progress to violence against trans bodies. This is an introduction to our movement and a reminder that it was never and will never be about bathrooms.
